Through the Second Life platform, I’ve met dozens of wonderful musicians from around the US and the world. Experienced and aspiring musicians make up a important part of the Second Life audience for any performer and it’s exciting and gratifying and sometimes a little rattling to see them in the the audience and read their comments.
Meet SOAR (aka “Somerset, Oh & Rhode”). Australian singer-songwriters Charles Somerset, Bright Oh and Experiment Rhode – three real life friends and long time musicians and users of the Second Life platform. SOAR moved their songwriting and performing into SL in early 2009. They are established, well regarded, loved and professional. Join their with an active and loyal following through their SL group – The SOAR Pandemonium – and an extensive website, blog and online song streaming to further engage with their fans. Facebook and Youtube, of course. Click on the image to start.
Their style falls somewhere between ballads and soft rock though occasionally they toughen up the softness when the mood is right. Bright and Charles share lead vocals, with their original acoustic music often enhanced by multi-layered tracks recorded, arranged and produced entirely by SOAR. I’m a BIG fan.
Experiment Rhode has been coming regularly and suggested a number of songs I’ve since learned well enough to include when I perform. One night – well, night in Portland and 16hrs later in Australia – he approached me with an idea.
As a gift to his fellow bandmates Bright & Charles, to celebrate their 4th SL anniversary, he approached me about recording one of their song: Bright Oh’s “Into Magic.” I was beyond honored. And then he followed up with a similar request of some of the finest musicians in SL. Experiment took the raw files and turned them into a truly beautiful tribute to his friends and their music.
I’ll soon be singing “Into Magic” live in Second Life. But you can listen to all of us… NOW.
